A 20x24 inch photograph is like no other. It is taken with one of the largest format cameras that exist in the world. The experience is magical and will often leave the subject breathless upon witnessing the final results.
Starting my film photography journey in 2005 with a high school darkroom photo class, in years since I have experimented with many mediums and formats. In 2022, after relocating to Salt Lake City, I launched SLC Darkroom—a private darkroom in the heart of the city offering diverse workshops and private 1:1 printing sessions. In 2023, I rescued a 105-year-old 24x24 inch Process Camera from an old print shop in Idaho closing down. Immediately upon seeing the camera I could envision the future art I could create.
There are only a handful of cameras this size in the world. The most famous of which are the Polaroid 20x24 cameras. Produced in the late 70’s these cameras were originally made to demonstrate the quality of Polaroid film. Over the last 50+ years artists such as Elsa Dorfman, Andy Warhol, Chuck Close, and more used these cameras to create timeless pieces of art. It was even used to take the first official photographic Presidential portrait, of Jimmy Carter in 1979, taken by none other than Ansel Adams. Unfortunately with the demise of Polaroid as it was once known, film production for the unique camera stopped in 2008.
This brings us to the RA-4 Reversal process —First we shoot a 20x24 inch piece of color paper directly in the camera like one would with film. Then by using a mix of both black & white paper chemistry and color paper chemistry we end up with a full color positive image. The entire development process takes only minutes, and while not exactly like a 20x24 Polaroid it is the closest one can get today.

Session Cost: $450. Deposit: $100, remainder of payment due day of shoot.

Session Cost: $300. Deposit: $50, remainder of payment due day of shoot.
Experience the unique process of an ultra large format photograph with your family. Take home a masterpiece to proudly hang above your mantle. Sessions are 2 - 3 hours long. You will receive the following 20×24 photographs to take home as part of the shoot: (1) as a family, and (1) individual portrait of each child and adult. Non-refundable deposit is required to book a session.
Session Cost: $550. Deposit: $150, remainder of payment due day of shoot. Session price includes up to (2) children under 18. For families with more than (2) children, additional charge of $100 per child. For families with one child, you will receive an extra photograph of your choosing.
What You Need To Know
I will reach out via Email and Text after the deposit is paid to coordinate a date and time for the shoot. My studio is located near downtown Salt Lake City, address will be provided after deposit is paid.
The process lends itself to eccentricity, feel free to express yourself with outfit and jewelry. All people of all kinds are welcome. Photographs will be primarily waist up.
Avoid all black outfits if possible. Avoid polyester fabrics and clothing.
The process does requires you sit very still for a short period of time. Children must be able to sit still.
Well behaved dogs are welcome, additional charge of $75 to include your pet in the photograph with you.
As this process has many variables that effect the final image. It is typical that I shoot more than just one single 20x24 photograph of any pose. All session prices include a digital copy of the photograph you take home as well as select other photographs taken during the shoot.
Photographs are available for pickup 1-2 weeks after the shoot at my studio. If you are from out of town, I can arrange shipping for a small additional charge.
